Inside OSEA with

In the early 80s, I became a spa director and couldn’t find products on the market with clean ingredients. I realized I’d have to formulate them myself. OSEA emerged from my desire to create skincare with effective ingredients that are not only good for our wellbeing, but for the planet. 

OSEA was born from generations of women inspired by the ocean. My family’s relationship with the sea can be traced back over 100 years ago. 

In the 1920’s my grandmother Elsa, a chiropractor, sustained a serious injury and was bedridden for months. Unable to care for her patients, one night a message came to her in a dream: 

“The ocean will heal you.” 

She swam in the sea daily and healed within months. She attributed her recovery to the minerals and trace elements found in salt water and seaweed. My grandmother taught me at a very young age that the ocean is a source of healing. It became the foundation of how I view wellness. When I created OSEA I wanted every product to reflect that connection to the ocean and its incredible power. 

OSEA was a natural extension of my upbringing. I just knew I wanted to create seaweed-based skincare. Seaweed is one of nature’s most nutrient-dense superfoods, rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and nutrients. I became fascinated by its ability to transform the skin. 

It’s amazing to see how scientists are still discovering new benefits of seaweed. From ice cream to new medications to skincare… everything about seaweed continues to excite me! 

One of the most meaningful moments we shared together happened in New York City. We were in Times Square and looked up to see our OSEA billboard illuminated above the crowds. We froze for a moment. It felt surreal. Then we hugged with tears in our eyes. It was a culmination of years of shared passion, challenges, late-night conversations and belief in what we created. 

The ocean keeps me grounded, inspired and connected to something bigger than myself. It reminds me to slow down and listen, which is how I approach everything from formulating a product to making decisions for the brand. 

We’re excited to continue expanding OSEA’s reach in the years ahead — from deepening strategic collaborations to increasing accessibility through meaningful partnerships. We’re also focused on evolving our product range by building on our existing collections and launching into new categories that stay true to our values while meeting the needs of our growing community.
